Anti-Tuning: Updates for Shimano and Bosch
15 October 2019 Christian
BADASSBOX 4 SHIMANO 2019 AND SHIMANO MOTOR WITH NEXUS DI2 HUB GEARS
As we were recently confirmed, the tuning of a Shimano engine together with a Nexus Di2 hub gear (5-speed, e-bike specific) is no longer possible.
The tuning will probably be recognized based on a plausibility check and then it is no longer possible to change gears and the gear indicator disappears from the display.
BADASSBOX 4 BOSCH AND BOSCH ACTIVE LINE PLUS
Recently we received a message from our network that the Bosch Active Line Plus engine of an affected e-biker was tested positive for tuning and limited to 18km/h after a firmware upgrade in the workshop.
This was not our badassBox 4 but a wired tuning product, which was removed and reinstalled before the workshop date.
What makes this incident interesting, however, is the fact that the anti-tuning measures apparently only came into effect with a new firmware upgrade.
This supports our fear that so far the latest generation of engines will initially work with tuning and that anti-tuning measures could only be applied retrospectively or with a time delay.
With the current state of knowledge, we can only advise against buying an e-bike with a new Bosch motor (Gen. 4 or Gen. 3 Active Line (Plus)) or urgently refrain from getting a new firmware.
